Durians

The durian season is back. Although to some people, the durian is no longer considered a seasonal fruit because you can get them at Pasar Malam any time of the year but I am talking about the local Jitran kampung variety. Once a year around this time, these fruits are aplenty here in Jitra.

I am crazy over durians and so when I saw this pakcik at the Jitra market this morning, bringing a basketful of these fruits freshly gathered from his dusun (orchard), I asked him to choose two for me. He willingly obliged and started taking out the fruits one by one from the basket. All the fruits looked fresh and good to me so when I politely enquired why he had not chosen those at the top, he told me the good ones were at the bottom. Bless him! He finally got two of the best ones, according to him,  for me,  though they didn't really look good from the outside. But then, who was I to dispute his choice for these fruits were from his very own orchard. As at the time of this writing, I have yet to find out whether I had been cheated of my RM16 for 2 medium-sized durians. I had been conned numerous times over durians that I can't help feeling a bit sceptical this time, every time.

  1. hi Siti,

,,,both you laki bini tulis pasai durian buat kita terliyok sampai saya sanggup masuk hutan di-pulau kapas cari durian semalam tapi kena gigit nyamuk beratus ratus saja !. Ada pokok pokok durian kampung lama tertinggal konon nya di tepi bukit dalam hutan kata orang.
,,,adoi penat mencari saja, tak jumpa pokok durian but banyat pokok tongkat ali terjumpa pulak !. Besar besar-lah pokok TA, batang nya boleh buat tiang rumah atau papan lantai. Pokok getah tua pun banyak kat pulau ini tapi tiada orang mengambil hasil nya lagi dah bertahun tahun lama. Tak pandai menoreh getah, kena pergi belajar kot ?.
,,,nanti on the main land, i will get my durian from the market. Buat curry durian boleh tak ?. hehehe bagi mat salleh houseguests rasa kita punya speciality king fruit. Mereka nak special malay food tonight.

  5. Siti,

,,,tell you a trick for exercise, bila pi market park kereta jauh jauh supaya kena jalan kaki lebeh sikit. Bila sapu longkang, guna tenaga sampai berpeluh. Bila angkat baju tersedai, simpan dalam bakul besar as weight to carry about. Buat gardening, tanam pokok bunga/sayoran dan siram guna tong spray can supaya tak rugi air dan exercise sekali gust ?.
,,,i figure your mom is doing it right, sebab tu dia steady lagi. Bib dia exercise berjalan keliling bulatan park in Miri every morning, 5 x round ( satu round = 1 mile)..but with me kita buat 10 round-lah hehehe...i walk/jogging too along the beach every morning too b4 making b/fast for my houseguests..along the way i help clean up the beach front too. i swim too across to my boat, anchored 100 yards away from the beach everyday to tidy her up, start up engine and run her around the island with houseguests...cari makan Yeop Oii !! tiada pencen dari Airforce-lah hehehe but it keep me in good shape. Am only 69 kg this morning....nak kena durian Kedah baru naik sikit badan kot !. i dah pesan one of the island boys to buy me some durian for tonight from Marang.
